A breach of Royal Protocol! [confirmed]
Backstage after The Royal Variety Performance, a breach of Royal proportions broke out after Her Majesty The Queen was introduced to the judges of Britain's Got Talent. Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell led the assembled crowd into spontaneous cheers and applause when The Queen shook the hand of Paul Potts.
As The Queen was very taken by Paul's performance, cries of "Off with their heads" were summarily dismissed.

Crowd control [confirmed]
In September 2007, Paul performed in the Main Square in Copenhagen, Denmark where they expected, at most, 1,000 people. Just before he went out to sing, the crowd estimate was close to 20,000, surprising the event managers, the police and Paul!

Keeping in touch [confirmed]
The only extravagance Paul allowed himself as he traveled the world promoting his album, was a new set of luggage and a laptop computer so he could email and instant message his wife, Julie-Ann.

Tea at 10 Downing Street [confirmed]
Paul was surprised in December 2007 when a meeting with Simon Cowell turned out to be a spot of tea with Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The Prime Minister also presented Paul with an album plaque congratulating him on 2 million albums sold.

Paul performed in Barrymore’s 'My Kind Of Music' show (1999). The money he won from the show (£8000) along with his savings was spent on attending various training courses in Italy.

Paul had a bicycle accident in 2003, four days after returning to work after
recovering from surgery, where he broke his collar bone and effectively put
an end to his singing.

Paul first sang opera at the age of 28 for a karaoke competition where he dressed up as Pavarotti.

After having appendicitis, doctors discovered a benign tumour that was removed. Two weeks after the operation he was back on stage.

Before he was famous [confirmed]
Paul worked at Carphone Warehouse in Bridgend for two years, one year as
manager, before entering "Britain's Got Talent". Before that, he worked the
night shift for many years stacking shelves at the local Tesco supermarket.
